Hogwarts Outsider Chapter 6: The Book of Mysteries

There is no doubt that the bespectacled witch in "Wonderful Zoo" was right at the time.

The toad that Matthew bought was noisier than expected; since returning to Room 13 of the Leaky Cauldron, its screams have hardly stopped.

In this situation, it is almost impossible to stay in the room.

Finally, Matthew came up with a way to hang the glass box containing the toad on the balcony of the room, and then closed the window, and the whole world was instantly quiet.

It was almost noon, so he walked out of the room and went downstairs for a simple lunch.

But obviously this lunch was not pleasant, because his neighbor came to a weird person who almost wrapped his whole body in a thick woolen coat (you must know that it is August now), from the appearance of the other person, Much like an "old hag".

The "old hag" ordered a plate of **** raw pork liver, and then gnawed on it in front of Matthew with open mouth.

Fortunately, Matthew's mental quality has always been good, and he didn't spit out what he ate before. He even finished a baked potato in front of each other.

Climbing up the dirty and old wooden stairs again, Matthew looked at the other rooms on the second floor.

In addition to him, there seemed to be several children around his age living on this floor.

They should be the same as him, Muggle-born first-year Hogwarts freshmen.

But Matthew was not in a hurry to "get to know" them, he went straight back to his room.

……

After returning to the room, Matthew first sorted out all the things he bought this morning, and put them away in different categories.

Then, he took out the whole carton of magic textbooks that Lihen Bookstore gave him, and moved them to the wooden table.

Tear off the top seal, and take out the Hogwarts textbooks inside one by one.

"Standard Spells - Level 1"... "Elementary Transformation Guide"... "Dark Magic: Self-Defense Guide"...

These textbooks are similar to the contents of the original Harry Potter in memory.

And four quills...two bottles of black ink and one bottle of red ink...a large stack of letter paper...

Suddenly, Matthew Wakefield stopped.

Because he found that at the bottom of the carton, there was another thing——

Another book.

It is not too thick, and the cover definitely does not exceed half an inch (note: about 1.77cm), which is much thinner than any previous Hogwarts textbook.

The appearance of the book shows a simple texture. The paper is slightly yellowed from the side, and it is most likely something that is old.

The cover of the front and back covers are both made of a strange leather, which makes people look a little creepy.

The whole book, for some reason, gives people an indescribable feeling.

Matthew was stunned, and his intuition told him that this thing in front of him might be dangerous...

"What the **** is this?" He frowned, and withdrew his hand that was frozen in midair.

Reaching into his pocket, he took out the crumpled parchment list from earlier.

I compared it carefully, what was written on the list and what I just took out of the carton.

No mistake, the strange book on the bottom of the carton was not on the list; that is, it shouldn't be here at all.

Matthew didn't act rashly, he didn't even take the initiative to touch this unknown book, because he didn't forget that he was in a magical world now.

Even an ordinary diary may hide the consciousness of a powerful dark wizard, enough to manipulate the wizard who tries to use it... Not to mention the mysterious book in front of me, it seems to have "" written all over its face. the word "dangerous".

Matthew took a deep breath and finally decided to make a more cautious choice.

He lightly rang the housekeeper's bell in the room.

A minute later, the door of the room was knocked and opened.

A hunchbacked figure appeared at the door of the room. It was the emaciated bar owner Tom with all his teeth missing.

"Mr. Wakefield, do you have any orders?" He grinned and asked, although his smile was rather ugly.

"Excuse me, sir." Matthew said, "Can you help me throw this cardboard box and the contents into the trash can?"

He pointed to the cardboard box with the logo of Lihen Bookstore painted on it.

"Happy to help you!" said the bar owner.

He walked into the room and picked up the cardboard box.

Looking at the hunchbacked old man, he took the cardboard box and the contents out of the room together, and then walked down the stairs.

Matthew suddenly felt a burst of relief, as if some fatal danger was away from him.

……

In the afternoon and evening, Matthew was in the room, flipping through the Hogwarts textbooks.

Although because I don't have a wand at hand, I can only talk about it on paper, and I can't put it into practice at all.

However, even if it is a rough look, some clues can be seen.

Magic is not what I imagined before, all I need is to wave a wand stupidly and shout a few words in Latin.

It also involves the control of emotions, the mastery of subjective consciousness, and complex gestures that change according to different situations...

All in all, it is much more difficult to master a spell proficiently than Muggles in previous lives imagined.

Until the bell rang eleven times in the middle of the night, Matthew just put down the book "Thousands of Miraculous Herbs and Mushrooms~IndoMTL.com~ It's time to rest.

But before going to bed and turning off the lights, Matthew remembered one thing.

That is his new pet, the toad he just bought this morning, and he is still hanging on the balcony outside the window.

Time to bring it back.

Speaking of which, he hasn't even named that pet yet... or for the sake of how happy it was screaming earlier, he might as well call it Excited.

While thinking wildly, Matthew smiled, opened the window, and took back the small glass box hanging on the balcony.

Toad's screams are no longer remembered, it seems that the little guy may have adapted to the environment here.

The light green fire in the fireplace slightly illuminated the small glass box in Matthew's hand.

The smile on the boy's face froze in an instant.

Poor Toad didn't scream, and he never will.

It lay flat inside the glass box, its white belly facing the sky, and its dark eye sockets formed two huge bulges...

No more moving, no more chirping, no life.

Obviously, it has been dead for a long time.

"How come..." Matthew murmured to himself, what surprised him most was not the death of the toad, but——

Just under Toad's body, he saw a book.

A book that could hardly exist in this glass case.

It appeared inexplicably at the bottom of the cardboard box of Lihen Bookstore before, and then asked the bar owner Tom to throw away the mysterious book together with the cardboard box.

The sky outside the window suddenly turned dark gray; a ray of crimson moonlight shone through the window on the floor of Room No. 13 of the Leaky Cauldron.
