Hogwarts Outsider Chapter 57: Poaching
Soon, the Slytherin common room was full of people.
It was still early, and everyone was not sleepy. They began to gather around the green fire, sitting on those soft armchairs, discussing what happened before.
Matthew hadn't planned to join the ranks, but several of his "friends" had already helped him reserve a place.
"Matthew, come here!" Draco Malfoy shouted, pointing at the place beside him. Crabbe, Goyle, and Knott sat beside them.
Matthew could only walk over and sit among the crowd.
I have to say that in this season when the weather is getting colder and colder, staying by the fire is not a pleasant feeling.
"I feel that another attack has occurred!" A third-year Slytherin girl said: "It seems that Professor Grindelwald's threat that day is meaningless!"
"That's impossible!" Soon, someone retorted: "It's probably because of some other accident..."
"Then what kind of accident did you say?"
“…”
Everyone was arguing eagerly, but Matthew didn't care much, and half-lyed on the armchair with his eyes closed, enjoying the warmth of the fire.
"Matthew." Draco Malfoy leaned over and asked in a low voice, "Have you already guessed something?"
Matthew was stunned for a moment, and gave Malfoy a surprised look.
He quickly retorted: "Of course not, it's just that I don't care much about this..."
"...Principal Grindelwald is at school." He asked calmly, "Did Hogwarts encounter anything that he couldn't handle before?"
"Never." This time it was the prefect Gemma Farley who spoke: "It's never happened before, Principal Grindelwald has always been predictable!"
"That's all right!" Matthew continued to close his eyes and meditate.
"But this time it's different!" The third-grade girl from before continued, "In just two months, four people were attacked successively..."
"The headmaster wasn't at Hogwarts when they were attacked!" Farley retorted loudly.
Come on, the fight started again.
Just when Matthew was a little tired, and would rather stay away from this warm fire and return to the bedroom——
With a "creak", the door to the Slytherin common room was opened again.
The visitors this time are rare.
Here comes the Head of Slytherin House, Professor Horace Slughorn.
……
Professor Slughorn has always been a rather "philanthropic" professor.
Although he is the dean of Slytherin, unlike the other three deans, he rarely favors the students of Slytherin on weekdays, and many people complain to him to some extent.
But this time, since he rarely came to the common room, everyone had to stand up and shout "Professor".
"Oh, good evening!" Horace Slughorn had a smile on his face. He first glanced at Malfoy:
"Draco, how is your body recovering recently?"
"Great, professor, fully recovered!" Malfoy replied hastily.
"That's great, it's a pity that you haven't attended a party yet." Slughorn looked at Matthew again: "So what about you, Matthew... The Halloween dinner was interrupted, Are you afraid that such a bad 'thing' has happened?"
"I'm not scared at all, Professor, I just haven't had enough to eat..." Matthew replied calmly.
Slughorn laughed out loud, and the surrounding Slytherin students could only smile reluctantly.
"It's very simple, I'll let the house elf give you some food later! How about roast quail?" Slughorn patted the shoulders of Matthew and Malfoy affectionately—
At this time, he finally raised his head and looked at everyone.
The tone has also changed from the previous friendly to plain: "Indeed, there is nothing to be afraid of... A little incident happened in the Forbidden Forest. Professor Grindelwald has already found out the truth, so I specially asked me to inform you... "
"What happened, Professor?" Malfoy asked with some concern.
"Good question, Draco!" Slughorn nodded gently: "It's just a poaching incident..."
"...Professor Kettleburn, our Protection of Magical Creatures teacher, raised a group of precious unicorns in the Forbidden Forest. Lin attacked them for profit..."
"Then the poacher was caught?" This time it was Matthew who asked.
"Principal Grindelwald and Professor Kettleburn are catching the murderer. I don't think he can run very far." Slughorn replied.
"What about unicorns?" A girl asked with some concern, "Are they all right?"
"It's intact!" Slughorn spread his hands: "It's just a little frightened, so you may not be able to touch them in the protection of magical animals class in a short time..."
"Oh ~ IndoMTL.com ~ Oops!" The girl looked a little frustrated.
Dean Slughorn answered some more questions from the students until he grew impatient.
"Okay, kids, go to bed early tonight!" he exclaimed.
Then, he left the Slytherin common room without looking back.
……
"Professor Slughorn!" The dean had just walked out of the stone gate when he heard someone chasing after him.
"Oh, Matthew!" His face was very kind: "Is there anything else?"
"Can you tell me the truth..." Matthew lowered his voice and asked, "Are those unicorns really intact?"
"Well, I know I can't hide this from you, Matthew... you little smart boy!" Slughorn said with a smile, and at the same time he lowered his voice, his face quickly became serious: "Of course No, one of the unicorns was attacked and its blood was sucked dry, so Professor Kettleburn was so flustered..."
"...Merlin's beard, killing a unicorn is a great crime." He was still muttering.
Matthew frowned, and continued to ask: "Then what you said before... the unicorn was a little frightened?"
"Principal Grindelwald has decided to send people to temporarily transfer those poor little guys to Austria tonight... In two months, two unicorns have been killed. This loss is too great. Heavy!" Professor Slughorn sighed: "Okay, kid, don't worry about these anymore, go back and rest!"
"Okay, thank you, Professor!" Matthew nodded obediently.
When he turned around and returned to the common room, a faint smile appeared on the corner of his mouth.
