Battle of the Third Reich Chapter 16: Night Watch

Xu Jun walked over to the soldiers gently.

A soldier who was sitting against a wall writing a letter felt that someone was approaching. When he looked up, he saw Xu Jun. The soldier was startled, and quickly put his hand into his clothes, jumped up, and yelled.

   "Stand up!"

This sound was particularly loud in the silent night. It not only shocked the German soldiers present, but also awakened many people who were sleeping in the nearby trenches. There was a sound of interrogation everywhere in an instant. There was a lot of "cluck" when pulling the bolt.

Xu Jun regretted not having time to stop the soldier's reaction, which resulted in the current commotion. He stood there a little embarrassed, a little wondering what to do.

A young ensign on duty ran over and was shocked when he saw Xu Jun. The second lieutenant was nervous and speechless, so he had to work hard to make himself stand upright like a javelin.

Xu Jun finally liberated himself from the embarrassment. He smiled and said to the ensign: "Relax, Ensign, I just come out to breathe, you now order others to continue to rest, leave me alone. Do you understand?"

The second lieutenant replied quickly: "Yes, General! Don't you need me to accompany you to inspect the position?"

"No, I just want to take a look, I think it's good here, I will chat with these soldiers here. Go and execute my orders."

Xu Jun raised his hand to salute. The ensign hurriedly paid a salute, turned around and drove the soldiers who were standing there back to their positions, still yelling: "Don't watch, don't watch! The general ordered you to sleep. Please give it to you soon." I'll lie back to where you were, hurry up! It's you again, Tersile! It's not enough to fine you go to the kitchen and chop potatoes for a week, right? Don't let me lie down honestly, otherwise I will let you spend the rest of your life Go peel the potatoes. Don't ask me what happened, continue to sleep with you. And you, put the gun down for me..." The ensign's voice faded away. A piece of peace was restored all around.

Xu Jun found an empty iron-clad grenade box at the corner of the trench. He took the tin box and walked to the fire, and the soldiers who watched him blankly around quickly made a space for him. Xu Jun sat on the metal box and waved his hand to the straight soldiers standing next to him. He smiled and said, "Sit down, don't be restrained. I just want to chat with you casually." Those soldiers were at a loss. They looked at each other and immediately sat next to Xu Jun.

Everyone looked at Xu Jun respectfully, eyes full of admiration and awe. But Xu Jun felt uncomfortable seeing everyone looking at him like this. He quickly smiled and said: "Everyone relax, are we just chatting casually, don't say nothing, aren't you listening to this sergeant telling stories?"

Xu Jun looked at the old sergeant "Hey? Why didn't you say it. What were you talking about before? Keep talking, I want to hear too."

The old sergeant stood up quickly: "Report to the general..."

"Stop, stop, don't be so restrained. Now I order you all to give me a little bit. There are no generals, no superiors, only comrades in the trenches, friends. I said, who will give me more I am so restrained, I will send him to accompany the potato that Tersile has been cutting for a month."

The soldiers laughed when they heard this, and the atmosphere relaxed. Only the old sergeant was standing there scratching his head, neither standing nor sitting, not knowing what to do. The soldiers burst out laughing when they looked at him embarrassed.

"Shhh! Be lighter, lighter, you are about to wake up all the British people on the opposite side!" Xu Jun put on a very nervous and scared expression at the soldiers. As a result, the soldiers roared with laughter again.

"It's okay, no more trouble. Any more trouble will really wake up everyone else." Xu Jun smiled and shook his hand to the soldiers. The soldiers immediately covered their mouths, but there were still people who couldn't help but let out a muffled laugh.

Xu Jun then said to the old sergeant: "Okay, sit down and talk about what you are talking about before? Let them listen so attentively. Oh, I haven't asked you yet. What's the name."

The old sergeant quickly replied: "My name is Sterling Thackerwell, General von Steide, you can call me Old Thacker, everyone calls me like that."

"Don’t call me general, old Thacker, I remember I said that there are no generals or superiors here, only comrades in a trench, friends. Don’t call me von Stade. You know we are all It’s a German soldier. I once issued an order in the name of the Minister of the Third Reich that everyone should call me, Reinhardt. This proves that I and everyone are equal comrades. No one of the officers calls me. General von Steide called me General Reinhardt. So you should call me Reinhardt, because we are now friends." Xu Jun smiled at the old sergeant, oh, I should be called now Thacker said.

"That Jack really issued such a ridiculous order, but at that time he just wanted to create his approachable image. That guy is really a hypocrite." Xu Jun cursed Jack secretly in his mind.

Old Thacker hardly believes his ears? An army officer, a high-ranking officer, a general, the minister of the empire, the deputy head of the Nazi Party, this big man sitting high on the cloud, even allowed himself, a little sergeant, to call him directly, and he even called himself. friend. Old Thacker was so excited that he couldn't control himself, his blood pressure rose, his face flushed, and he stammered speechless.

The rigorous and rigid character of the Germans has created their absolute obedience and fear of authority. They are strictly hierarchical and never allow the slightest arrogance to happen. Since Xu Jun has inherited all the memories of Jack, of course he knows this kind of hierarchy very well. But Xu Jun is still a Chinese in his bones, and the influence of ancient Chinese culture from his childhood made the traditional moral concepts of Chinese people deeply ingrained in his mind. So he was a bit accustomed to and disapproved of Germany's current feudal stigma. He always feels that he is approachable, respects the elderly, respects the elders, distinguishes rewards and punishments, and is strict with himself and lenient to treat talents as the qualities that a leader should possess.

Xu Jun looked at the excited old Thacker and asked strangely: "Old Thacker, you speak, you haven’t said what you were talking about before?"

"He was telling us about his battle here in 1917." A soldier on the side said to Xu Jun.

"Oh, old Thacker, have you been here before?"

"It’s a long time ago, will...Lai...Mr." Old Thacker finally recovered a little bit. Originally, he wanted to call General Xu Jun but he remembered Xu Jun’s order. He really didn't dare to call him directly by Xu Jun's name, so he suffocated his name as Mr.

Xu Jun also didn't pay attention to what he called himself, he was interested in that piece of history now. Although I have read through the historical documents, I can never compare it with a veteran who participated in that war. Xu Jun's interest was raised.

"Then did you participate in the Battle of the Marne? And the Battle of Ypres and the Battle of Athos~IndoMTL.com~Did you participate in the Battle of Verdun, what about the Somme?"

Xu Jun and Old Thacker began to talk enthusiastically about the **** World War I on the Western Front. The vivid story of Old Thacker also made other soldiers gradually let go of their awe of Xu Jun, and began to rush to ask and comment on the side. They sometimes exclaimed at the tragic battle, and sometimes mourned the sacrifice of a large number of heroic soldiers at that time. Sometimes I was amused by some strange things on the battlefield at that time.

"German soldiers are really simple soldiers. I hope I can lead them to victory instead of perishing." Xu Jun looked at the young faces and sighed secretly.

It was late at night, and Xu Jun interrupted the conversation with Old Thacker. After all, there will be battle tomorrow, and the soldiers need to rest well. Don’t affect everyone’s sleep because of yourself. Although the other soldiers still wanted to continue listening, they all lay down and fell asleep under Xu Jun's order.

Xu Jun looked at the black and whistling position of the opposite British army. Now those British people must still be licking their wounds in the darkness. Xu Jun was not ready to return to the headquarters, he sat down next to the soldiers next to the trenches by the fire, closed his eyes, and fell asleep deeply.

At this time Hans walked out of the dark shadow on the side. He sighed slightly, shook his head, and knelt down and gently covered Xu Jun with a military blanket. Hans stared at Xu Jun's face, sleeping like a child for a while, and a smile slowly appeared on the corner of his mouth.

Then Hans stood up, stretched his arms, and turned and walked into the darkness when he came.
