Hogwarts Outsider Chapter 7: A broken hope
Early the next morning, a boy appeared in the "Wonderful Zoo" shop in Diagon Alley.
His eye circles were red and his face was full of exhaustion. It looked like he didn't sleep well last night; especially with a dead toad in his hand, he looked very funny.
The boy was none other than Matthew Wakefield.
His tiredness is normal, as he barely slept a wink last night.
This is not surprising, after experiencing such a terrible incident, I am afraid that few people can fall asleep. Throughout the night, he was thinking about whether he would die suddenly on the bed like that poor toad, and then that weird book appeared under his body.
Fortunately, such a bad situation did not happen, and he was still alive until the next morning.
The weird book still stayed quietly in the glass box, motionless.
Matthew didn't dare to touch it. He just fished the dead toad out of the glass box and ran to Diagon Alley.
……
"You mean, did this little guy die suddenly?"
The boss of "Wonderful Zoo", the witch wearing thick glasses, took the toad's body from Matthew's hand in a somewhat unbelievable way.
"What's going on here, you must know that the vitality of the toad is very tenacious." She murmured.
Matthew spread his hands: "Madam, I also really want to know what happened."
"Wait a moment!"
As the witch spoke, she pulled out her wand from her waist and waved it lightly.
A magnifying glass flew out of nowhere in the shop and landed in her hand. Then she sat down at the wooden table next to her, put the dead toad in front of her, then raised the magnifying glass and began to observe carefully.
Matthew could only wait on the sidelines.
While waiting, he was also carefully observing the witch's expression... At first she was calm, but after seeing something, a horrified expression appeared on her face.
"What's the matter, ma'am?" he asked softly.
"No...it's nothing..." The witch shook her head violently, her frightened face quickly turned into an unbelievable expression: "This is impossible..."
Matthew bit his lip, and he tried to make his tone as casual as possible: "Is the cause of Toad's death strange?"
"This poor little guy seems to have been frightened to death..." The witch said incoherently, "It's impossible...it can't be like that...it's just a toad , no one would do that to it..."
She stood up tremblingly, and threw the black-eyed toad's body into the trash can without hesitation.
Her voice gradually returned to calm: "I will make compensation for this, sir, you can choose another toad in the shop."
Although her state is still very wrong.
When reaching into the cage to catch a toad, she lost her grip for a moment and almost fell into the cage; when writing the transaction records, she broke two quill pens in a row; When she was picking up a new toad, she accidentally kicked over a kettle on the ground...
All in all, when Matthew was sent away from her shop like a plague god, the witch wearing thick glasses was relieved like a heavy burden.
……
Matthew Wakefield saw everything about the performance of the witch.
The worries and doubts in my heart also became deeper.
But he didn't dare to continue to provoke her. After all, although the other party looked out of her mind, she was a real adult witch... I was a minor child who knew nothing about magic. If she didn't want to say it, it was almost impossible for him to ask What is it.
Holding the newly acquired toad in his hand, he came to his next destination:
Lihen Bookstore.
The clerks of Lihen Bookstore didn't seem to remember that the boy had visited once yesterday, and still received him with a smile on their faces.
While wandering in the bookstore, Matthew considered his language. He didn't dare to directly ask about the book.
After shopping for about three to five minutes, Matthew slowly approached a clerk with no one around:
"Do you... have any older... ancient books..." he asked softly.
"No!" The clerk replied without raising his head.
"Really?"
Seeing the other party look up, Matthew quickly added: "A friend of mine told me that he found a book whose pages were all in the Hogwarts bookcase that your bookstore gave him. The yellowed old..."
"He's lying!" The clerk said bluntly, with a very indifferent expression on his face: "In the Hogwarts bookcase, there is no way that there is something that doesn't belong in it; besides, Lihen Bookstore only sells New books, if you want to find that old antique, you should go to the library!"
"But..." Matthew wanted to say something else.
"If you are here to chat with someone, not to buy books, then please get out!" The clerk said impatiently: "I can give you a little help!"
He stood up ~IndoMTL.com~ and drew a wand from his waist at the same time—
Before Matthew had time to react, he was pushed out of the bookstore by an invisible force, unable to control his actions at all... The boy was easily pushed out of the Lihen Bookstore, and then fell heavily in Diagon Alley cobblestone floor.
Several wizards in black robes hurried past him, but no one paid any attention to him.
Matthew got up from the ground in some embarrassment, and patted the dust off his body.
It seems that there is no way to ask about the origin of that book... Looking at the sign of Lihen Bookstore for the last time, he thought to himself.
But even though the clerk just now had a rough attitude and action, what he said doesn't seem to be fake...
So, where did that book come from?
……
Matthew returned to the entrance of Diagon Alley in despair.
He doesn't have a wand, so he can't get through here... just wait for a wizard to pass by as he came, and walk in after him.
His heart was a little heavy, that weird book weighed on his heart like a mountain.
What should I do?
The only way I can think of now is to wait until after Hogwarts and hand over the book of unknown origin to Albus Dumbledore. With Professor Dumbledore's knowledge, maybe he can figure out a way, maybe he can help himself out of the predicament...
Suddenly, Matthew froze.
In such a world, would Albus Dumbledore still be the Headmaster of Hogwarts?
I'm afraid not...
Following the shattering of this hope, he smiled bleakly, and then walked towards Room 13 of the Leaky Cauldron.
